Fresh chilies Scotch Bonnet Yellow
Fresh Scotch Bonnet Yellow Chili Peppers from Chilli Hills
Family: Capsicum Chinense
Origin: Caribbean on the island of Jamaica
The Scotch Bonnet pepper is a variety of the Habanero pepper and is among the hottest peppers in the world. If you've ever tried a Habanero, you know it's very hot. The Scotch Bonnet is equally hot, or more accurately, it reaches 100,000-350,000 SHU on the Scoville scale.
Scotch bonnet peppers are usually red or yellow in color. However, other varieties can ripen to orange, yellow, peach, or even chocolate brown. They are very similar to the Habanero.
The taste is fruity and slightly sweet. Their flavor has hints of apple, cherry, and tomato. To test the spiciness and flavor, try cutting off a piece and tasting it, or even chewing it.
These chili peppers are commonly used in pork and chicken dishes. Scotch Bonnets are primarily used in traditional Caribbean dishes, Grenadian, Trinidadian, Jamaican, Barbadian, Guyanese, Surinamese, Haitian, and Caymanian cuisine.
However, remember to handle chili peppers with care. Wear gloves when cutting them to avoid spreading their capsaicin.
