Moruga Scorpion Yellow
Moruga Scorpion Yellow from Chilli Hills
The Trinidad Moruga Scorpion pepper is known as one of the hottest peppers in the world. It originates from the Moruga region of Trinidad and Tobago and belongs to the species Capsicum chinense .
The pepper has a wrinkled and uneven surface, often with a tail that resembles a scorpion's tail - hence its name. The color can range from green when unripe to bright red or orange when fully ripe.
The Moruga Scorpion is extremely hot, reaching 2 million units on the Scoville Heat Scale (SHU), making it one of the hottest peppers in the world.
Despite its extreme spiciness, the pepper also has fruity notes – something between sweet and citrusy, which is felt briefly before the strong spiciness takes effect.
It is mainly used in small quantities to prepare hot sauces, marinades and spices. It is extremely suitable for people who are looking for extremely strong sensations in cooking.
The Moruga Scorpion pepper was awarded the world record for the hottest pepper in 2012, but has been surpassed by other varieties such as the Carolina Reaper in recent years.
